Mary Carroll Gilmore, 90, of Indianapolis, IN passed away September 16, 2021. She was born January 11, 1931 in Vincennes, Indiana, to the daughter of the late Rebert and Mary (O’Brien) Abel. She married William David Gilmore on June 20, 1950 who preceded her in passing in 2015 and her brother, Robert Abel in 2013. Carroll graduated from Anderson High School in 1948 and continued her higher education to the St. John’s School of Nursing where she graduated in May 1951. Carroll managed both her family and career for many years and eventually retired as a dedicated registered nurse from Metro Health in 1992 to spend more time with her grandchildren.
She enjoyed many friends including her “Glow” Red Hat Ladies group where she reigned as “Queen Bee” for many years. She loved to have themed meetings complete with table decorations, activity and special themed party favors that were personally curated and handmade. Mary, or most knew her as Carroll, was very crafty and had an artistic talent. She also loved to sew as she taught herself as a teenager by disassembling slips and reconstructing them. She could sew anything as she spent countless late-night hours sewing one-of-a-kind creations for her family and friends. She also enjoyed baking and cooking as her homemade dumplings and noodles were among her specialties along with fudge brownies, homemade doughnuts, and oatmeal chocolate chip cookies.
She is survived by her two sons, Daniel Gilmore, and Kevin (Theresa) Gilmore; two daughters, Machelle (Barry Krieble) LaMonaca and Claudia (Chris) Kenyon. Five grandchildren; Rachel (Rafael) Cano, Rebekah Gilmore, Michael (Genevieve) LaMonaca, Taylor and Alex Kenyon as well as three great grandchildren; Jackson, Lincoln, Giovanna and soon to be a forth with Luca due later this month.
