Mary Jane "Janie" Calaway, born on April 3, 1952, in Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning, May 19, 2026, at the age of 74.
Janie was a devoted wife, mother, sister, and friend who brought warmth and kindness to everyone she met. She was known for her gentle spirit and her passion for beautifying the world around her, both through her work as a talented beautician.
Preceded in death by her beloved husband, James Robert Calaway, on January 2, 2016, Janie cherished her family above all else. She leaves behind two devoted sons, James Joseph Calaway and Tommy Calaway, who continue to carry forward her legacy of love and compassion.
Grandchildren: Jimmy Calaway, Nikki Blanchard, Ashley Calaway, Christian Calaway, George Calaway, Marilynn Calaway, Stone Calaway, Larry Calaway, as well as 11 great grandchildren.
Janie's sisters, Judy Pence (husband William), Karen Bare, and Joan Hartwig (husband William), will forever hold dear the memories they shared with her, as will her aunt Sharon Snyder (husband Ronald) and aunt Jenny Jonquet (husband Steve). Her extended family and numerous friends will miss her dearly.
Janie touched the lives of many with her warm smile and generous heart. She will be remembered fondly and dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 27, 2026 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Flanner Buchanan - Decatur Township, located at 5463 Kentucky Avenue, Indianapolis, IN 46221.
The funeral service to celebrate Janie's life will be held on Thursday, May 28, 2026 at 10:00 AM - also at Flanner Buchanan - Decatur Township.
There will be a burial service on Thursday, May 28, 2026 at 1:00 PM at Marion National Cemetery, located at 1700 E. 38th Street, Marion, IN 46953 where Janie will be laid to rest with her husband James Robert Calaway.
