Mary Janelle Bushur

Our Savior Jesus Christ has destroyed death and brought life and immortality to light through the Gospel. Let us remember with thanksgiving what God has done through His servant Mary Bushur.

Mary Janelle Blievernicht, daughter of George and Martha, was born on August 20th, 1935 on the Illinois family farm. She was baptized in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit on Sept. 15, 1935 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Wheeler, IL. On April 10, 1949 she was confirmed and received the Lord’s life-giving Body and Blood, which she continued to treasure the rest of her life.

Mary was joined in Holy Matrimony to Raymond William Bushur on Dec. 30, 1956. They were blessed with 5 children, Lois (Peter Dooms), David (Heidi), Mark (Richelle), Paul (Ann), and James (Lori). Mary and Ray shared 39 years of marriage until his death July 25, 1996. Mary was also greatly blessed with 19 grandchildren, 4 step grandchildren, and 20 great grandchildren (still counting!)

Mary valued her childhood on the farm with stories of the long walk to the one-room schoolhouse, chicken chores, pond fishing, and barn cats. As a wife and mother, Mary was devoted to her family, known for delicious meals, beautiful flower gardens, and faithful Christian love.

On August 20, 2025, at the age of 90, Mary received the call she had been eagerly awaiting from the Lord. What joy to be lifted from this world of tears and into His marvelous light! Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints.

The Lord gives and Lord takes away; blessed be the name of the Lord. We give thanks to God our Father through Jesus Christ, our Lord for our sister, Mary Bushur.

Memorials in Mary Bushur’s name may be given to Advent Lutheran Church or Concordia Lutheran Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne.
