Mary Elizabeth “Betsy” Gordon, 55, of Carmel, Indiana, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on May 15, 2025. She was born on May 6, 1970, in Indianapolis, Indiana to parents, James R. “Dick” Anthony and Beverly S. (Mattox) Anthony.
Betsy graduated from Carmel High School in 1989 and went on to teach at The Little Lamb Preschool for 13 years. She married her best friend Rob Gordon in 1991, and they spent many wonderful years by each other’s side. They were blessed with two children, who were her pride and joy. Betsy attended women’s Bible studies and lovingly served in the children’s ministry of Creative Living. She enjoyed spending time with her friends and family, going to concerts, and listening to music. She loved road trips and she and Rob traveled extensively throughout the country in recent years. Her favorite vacation spot was Nestor Falls, Ontario, Canada. Betsy had a great collection of board games and enjoyed playing them. Her nieces and nephews especially enjoyed it when Aunt Betsy wanted to have a game night. She was an excellent cook and often hosted her friends and family for dinner. She made a mean pot of chili. She was warm and welcoming to all who entered their home. Betsy always had a smile on her face. She was always interested in celebrating everyone’s wins and mourning their losses. She often told stories in the most animated fashion, starting with, “Now let me tell you...”. Whenever her kids would leave the house, she would say, “Be smart and be safe!”
Even during her illness, she kept a positive attitude, often saying, “I could sit here and kick and scream and throw a fit, but that wouldn’t do anybody any good, and I know where I’m going anyway.” She had a zest for life and never worried about the prognosis of her illness. She would declare to the doctors, “Only Jesus knows the number of my days”. She lived well and loved deeply and will be greatly missed by so many.
Betsy is survived by her loving husband, Robert Gordon; children, Trenton and Taylor Gordon; her parents, Dick and Beverly Anthony; siblings, Julie Summerville, Tom (Shellie) Anthony, and Suzy (Tony) Wilhelm along with many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Tom and Donletta Mattox and James and Loreen Anthony, Aunt Judy Timberman, Uncle Fred Timberman, Aunt Mary Beth Moster Scott and Aunt Betty Vincent.
Visitation for Betsy will be from 10am-1pm on Saturday, May 24, 2025, at Flanner Buchanan – Carmel – 325 E. Carmel Drive, Carmel, IN 46032, with a funeral service immediately following at 1pm. Burial will be private.
