Mary Belle O’Haver, 89, resident of Indianapolis, Indiana passed away on July 10, 2016 with her husband, Lloyd, by her side.
Mary was born on August 15, 1926 to Jesse B. Ensor and Eula Burke Ensor in Clinton Falls, Indiana. Mary was raised on the family farm with her two brothers, Claude and William where she gained her love for cooking, animals and hard work. She attended grade school, junior high, and two years of high school at Clinton Center School in Putnam County, Indiana. She graduated in 1944 from Bridgeton High School located within Park County, Indiana.
Mary spent her freshman year of college at Indiana University from 1944-1945. Then, she moved to Greencastle, Indiana where she worked at the Central National Bank thru 1947. Mary married her true love, Lloyd William O’Haver on June 14, 1947. Before and during marriage, she started working at DePauw University as the comptroller in the Administration office in Greencastle. On March 11, 1951 their only child Michael Lloyd O’Haver was born.
In August 1953 the family moved to Indianapolis for Lloyd’s first teaching position in Washington Township, Indianapolis. Mary completed her college education at Butler University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business. She attained her teaching certificate and started her teaching career at Westlane Junior High in Indianapolis in 1960. In 1962, she attained her Master’s Degree in Education from Ball State University. In 1979, she began teaching English at North Central High School in Indianapolis. During this time, she and Lloyd were members of St. Luke Methodist Church. Mary took her son, Michael, on several mission trips with the youth ministry to Boston, Massachusetts and Canada. She was also the Boy Scout troop leader for her son and friends. She retired from teaching in 1984 from North Central High School to spend more time with her grandchildren.
Her son Michael and wife Ann presented Mary and Lloyd with four grandchildren. Mary and Lloyd (Ma & Pa) gave much of their time, energy, and love to their grandchildren during their years of retirement. Mary was a doting grandmother and great grandmother to her six great-grandchildren.
Mary was very proud of her Irish heritage as she was a descendant of the Burke Clan in Ireland. She was quick-witted, intelligent and had a great sense of humor. She was a passionate reader of novels, a master of cross word puzzles, and one of the best “down-home” cooks there ever were. She could always be found in her kitchen with her apron on making homemade pies, breads, noodles, chocolates, and recipes from scratch. She enjoyed cooking for her family and holding family events at her house for all members to enjoy her craft.
Mary is survived by her husband of 69 years, Lloyd, her son, Michael and wife Ann, and their four children, Ryan (Rachel LaMar) O’Haver, Matthew (Lindsey Bollinger) O’Haver, Melissa Joyce (Frederick) Ulery, and William O’Haver. As well as, her six great-grandchildren Jax, Jet, Olivia, Kyden, Easton, and Freddie. Additional survivors include her brother, William, (Ruth Ann) Ensor, her nephew Mark Ensor and her niece Chris Ensor.
