Carol graduated from Southside High School and began working at Bowser, Inc. in Ft. Wayne. She met Frederick C. Barnet in 1946. After just three weeks of dating, Carol and Fred became engaged. They were married on June 20, 1947. Their daughter, Mary, was born a year later. They moved to Indianapolis in 1951 where Carol became the church secretary at Victory Baptist. She later worked as an executive secretary at Grain Dealers Mutual Insurance Company, retiring from there in 1985.
Carol and Fred were happily married for 43 years until Fred passed away in 1990. Carol then moved to Zionsville to be closer to their daughter and lived there until moving to St. Augustine's in August, 2011.
Carol loved to sing. She sang with a group called the Melody Six when she was a young woman and sang in her church choirs for nearly seventy years. She taught Sunday School and Bible Study in her churches for sixty years and was a member of Zionsville Christian Church. Carol also enjoyed taking long walks and loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Carol is survived by her daughter, Mary (David) Mills, grandson Chad (Joellen) Mills, granddaughter, Megan (Kelly) Ojala, and great granddaughters Kate, Abby, Ella, and Adele, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Carol was a woman of tremendous faith. She constantly gave of herself to others. She was an inspiration to all who knew her and an example of how Christ would have us live. Carol will be remembered for her selflessness, her strength and courage, and her unending love and kindness. Well done, good and faithful servant.
