Mary Lou Quandt Averitt 83, of Zionsville died April 10, 2013 at the St.Vincent Hospice, Indianapolis after an extended illness. Mary was born December 4, 1929 to William Omer and Mildred Patterson Quandt in Chester, PA; they preceded her in death as did her brothers Robert Quandt, Don Quandt, and Paul Quandt, and grandchildren, Hannah Elizabeth Menchhofer and Michael Forrest Fitzpatrick; and her beloved husband, Forrest I. Averitt, whom she wed August 27, 1949. Mary Lou was a 1948 graduate of Shortridge High School, a nurse for 15 plus years, and a nanny for over 25 years. She is remembered for her spirited sense of humor (especially on April Fool's Day), avid love of camping and spending time with children and her dogs. After her husband of 45 years passed on March 4, 1994 she enjoyed shopping, daily outings at McKamey's Village Pharmacy with the group of lunch friends, and driving her Red VW Bug. When her health failed she moved into her daughter Nancy's home for a number of years. Mary is survived by her sons, Larry Averitt and Tom (Theresa) Averitt; her daughters, Linda (Wayne) Biggs, Della (Owen) Menchhofer, Carol (Scott) Robbins, and Nancy (Robert) Fitzpatrick. Her surviving grandchildren are Adam and Aaron Biggs; Nick, Rachel and Jessica Averitt; Jacob and Matthew Menchhofer; Courtney Syester and Danielle Syester Lundgren; Holly Fitzpatrick, and Will and Kaitlyn Averitt; and 8 great grandchildren. Her surviving siblings are brothers, Charles 'Bud', Herb, Phil, William and John Quandt, and her sisters Betty Clark and Shirley Smith. A graveside service will be held for family and close friends on Saturday, April 13, 2013 @ 10:30 am at Zionsville Cemetery, Zionsville Road and W. 106th Street, Zionsville. A Celebration of Life will follow afterwards beginning at 11:30 am at the American Legion Post 79, 9950 E. 600 S, Zionsville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Vincent Hospice, 8450 N. Payne Rd., Indianapolis, IN 46268.
