Marvin Meals, 72, Indianapolis, passed away November 4, 2011. Marvin was born in Forrest City, AR, the youngest son of the late Walter L. and Maggie Lillian (VanHook) Meals. He was preceded in death by older brother, Walter Jr. and sister, Margaret Parker. Marvin leaves behind to hold his memory dear, his loving wife of 47years, Louise Walker Meals and three children, Jim (Shelia) Kogler of Red Banks, MS, Jill Heather (Steve) Meals-Herron of New Palestine, IN and Matthew Shane Meals of New York City, NY; four grandchildren, Andy Kogler, Kristen Jeffords, Amy and Katie Herron; two great grandchildren, Andrea and Madilyn. Marvin also leaves behind extended family, Michael Miller and Dale Allison, both of Louisville, KY. He also leaves behind to mourn his loss, his beloved dog, "Miss Pickett".
Marvin graduated from Christian Bros. College in Memphis, TN with a B.S. in Engineering and from Ball State University with an M.B.A. He retired from International Harvester in Louisville, KY and also from Borg Warner Gear of Muncie and Ryobi Tools in South Carolina. After retirement, Marvin worked part-time at Wal-Mart on 96th Street in Indianapolis. He was Past Master of the Middletown, KY Lodge #732 and was a member of the Scottish Rite. Marvin was a member of the Old Bethel United Methodist Church in Indianapolis. He was also a member of the YMCA Silver Sneakers, Ransburg Branch. Along with enjoying his family, he was happiest restoring old train engines for the Kentucky Railway Museum, building model trains or carving whimsical wooden figures by "Carvin Marvin".
The family sends a special 'Thanks" for the loving care provided by the Bio Protective Unit and Oncology Staff of Community Hospital East. Services for Marvin will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, November 8, 2011 at Flanner and Buchanan Funeral Center-Washington Park East, with visitation from 5 to 8 p.m. on Monday, November 7. Burial will be in Washington Park East Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
