Marvin Lee Mccallister

Marvin Lee McCallister 90, Indianapolis, Indiana passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Monday evening. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Sophie Ann Kubic, and their four children: Dennis Lee McCallister, Ronald Duane McCallister, Deidra Lynn Storey and Diane Elise McElheny; eleven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Alma Jean Whitsell and dozens of nieces, nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews. Marvin was born June 1, 1923 to Riley and Uda Grace McCallister, the eighth of their ten children. He attended grade and high school in Decker Chapel, Indiana. Marvin worked for over thirty years at the Chrysler plant on Shadeland Ave. in Indianapolis. Best known for his wonderful smile and his favorite hat, Marvin found enjoyment in life's simple pleasures. He absolutely loved watermelon and his favorite Yorkie, Bob. He was an avid gardener, euchre player, horseshoe player and fisherman. His sense of humor and youthful nature brought joy to all who knew him. He was a proud veteran of the US Navy, serving in the submarine service during WWII at Groton, CT. Marvin was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church for over 60 years, where he served as president of their Men's Club, chairman of the building committee and as an usher at mass. He was a member of the Holy Family Knights of Columbus, the American Legion, the UAW, and did volunteer work at Veterans Hospital in Indianapolis. Visitation will be on Thursday, October 10, 203 at St. Ann Catholic Church 6350 S. Mooresville Rd. Indianapolis from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 12:00 noon. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery with Military Honors. In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested contributions to St. Vincent Hospice or Riley Children's Hospital.
