Marvin C. Brown, Sr., 82, of Zionsville passed away June 20, 2012 at home. He was born on February 9, 1930 in Fortville, IN to the late Curtis and Dora Brown. Marvin served his country honorably in the U.S. Air Force from 1947 to 1951. He married Mary C. E. Guffey on January 27, 1950.
Marvin was employed by the Teamsters from 1955 to 1985. He enjoyed racing cars in the 1950s at Kitley Race Track and was a member of the Indy 500 Old Timers' Club. Marvin was also a member of the Celestial Masonic Lodge #525 of Whitestown, Scottish Rite and Shrine, Wayne Township American Legion Post 64, and Mts. Runn Regular Baptist Church.
Marvin owned and operated Brownie's Service and Repair, Inc. from 1989 to 2003. After his retirement, he moved back to the family farm in Zionsville and raised cows and chickens.
Marvin is survived by his sister, Mary Sue Rayer of Ashville, NC; children Marjorie Jeanne Lawler (Fred) of Mitchell, IN, Marvena Bell (John) of Lebanon, IN, Marvin C. Brown, Jr. (Gaye) of Zionsville, IN, Marilyn Brown of Indianapolis, IN and Thomas Brown (Becky) of Zionsville, IN. Eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews also survive him. He was preceded in death by his wife Mary and his stepson Herbert S. "Herby" Mikel.
Calling will be Sunday, June 24, 2012 at Flanner and Buchanan-Zionsville from 2 to 6 p.m. Services will be Monday, June 25th at 11 a.m. with calling one hour prior to the service. Contributions in memory of Marvin may be made to Indiana Masonic Home, 690 State Street, Franklin, IN 46131
