Marvel Marie (Travis) Kinney,
92, of Speedway, passed away on July 5, 2013 at Hooverwood Nursing Home. She was born on August 6, 1920 and grew up in Center Point, IN. Marvel lived in Speedway for more than 60 years. Marvel was a long distance phone operator at Indiana Bell during WWII. After her husband, James Arthur "Artie" Kinney, died in 1967, she got a job at G. C. Murphy. She held various positions until she retired in 1995 at the age of 75. Marvel enjoyed a good laugh and loved being with her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Coy and Della (Hicks) Travis; sister, Marcia (Bob) Kinney; brother, Robert (Pat) Travis. Marvel is survived by her son, Tom Kinney; daughter Julie (Todd) Schraeder; grandchildren, Casey and Jimmy Schraeder.
Funeral services for Mrs. Kinney will be held at Flanner and Buchanan – Speedway on Friday, July 12, 2013 at 1:30pm. Visitation will be from 12noon until service time, also at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Floral Park Cemetery.
The family wishes to acknowledge the staff of Hooverwood Nursing Home for the loving care they provided, and ask that memorial contributions be made to Hooverwood Nursing Home in remembrance of Marvel.
