Born August 1, 1921 in Carlisle, IN on a farm, the second child to Joe and Hallie (Seever) Beck, Martha Virginia always brought light into any room she entered. One of her favorite childhood memories is of her rides to school in the horse drawn school wagon, which was drove by her dad. Although she knew her husband Wayne Ellis locally while growing up, after he came home from the European Front, their love blossomed, and they were married June 1946. They eventually settled in Lakeville, IN (South Bend) where they bought a farm and raised their children, Freddy Wayne and Betsy Sue. They enjoyed years of equestrian endeavors, traveling around Indiana and the Midwest.
In 1968, Martha and Wayne relocated to Carmel, IN, where they were very involved in the growing community. They attended church at Carmel Christian. They loved spending time watching their grandchildren Kyle and Heather Bartlett and Aaron and Bradley Ellis at Carmel Dad’s Club and later Carmel School and Culver Military Academy events. Martha and Wayne owned Ellis & Ellis Insurance Agency. In the early 2000’s Martha enjoyed spending her time at Woodbrook Elementary, helping in her daughter, Betsy Bartlett’s 2nd grade classroom.
