Martha Oliver

Indianapolis, Indiana – Martha Dalton Oliver, 78, passed away peacefully on December 23, 2023. Martha was born on September 2, 1945, to John E. Dalton and Ruth (Seabury) Dalton in Rockland, Maine. 

Raised in Damariscotta Mills, Martha graduated from Lincoln Academy and earned her bachelor’s degree in education from Washington State Teachers’ College (later known as the University of Maine at Machias). She taught in the Brunswick (Maine) School District for most of her career prior to retiring to the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky area with her husband John in the early 1990s and, later, to Indianapolis in 2009. 

Martha was a vibrant and outgoing woman who loved music and the arts. She was an avid reader, a marvelous storyteller, and a fearless adventurer who loved to travel. Above all, she enjoyed and cherished time with her family and friends, welcoming all.  

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her granddaughter, Roxanne Mather. 

Martha is survived by her loving husband, John B. Oliver; daughters Janet (Oliver) Mather and her husband Kim, Stacey Oliver Costello, and Alison Oliver Canada; sister Judy (Dalton) Zajechowski and her husband John; grandchildren Matthew Raymond and his wife Katie, Nicole (Mather) Levenson and her husband David, Matthew Mather, Rowan Costello, Abigail Costello, Aidan Wallace, Thomas Patterson, Elizabeth (Patterson) Lemoine and her husband Kenny, and Katherine Patterson; and great-grandchildren Benjamin, Savannah, Luke, Asher, and Oliver.
