Martha Leigh Valler
Our beloved Martha passed away quickly and comfortably after complications from a long standing illness. She enjoyed her maternal role and was a keystone to her family – a wife, mother, sister and daughter.
Martha was born August 3, 1957 in Wilmington, Delaware. She graduated high school (1975) at Charles W. Woodward in Rockville, Maryland and from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia (1979) with a degree in Psychology. Martha taught pre-school in Carmel, Indiana from 1993 to 2002 at Carmel United Methodist Church and the Montessori School at St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church.
An informal celebration in her memory will be held on Saturday, November 13th from 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm at the home of Cindy and David Halt 13803 Smokey Ridge Dr. Carmel, IN 46033. A separate celebration and internment will occur at a later date in Chestertown, Maryland.
Martha is survived by her husband, Jeffrey Atwood Valler of Carmel, IN; children, Gregory Atwood Valler of Carmel, IN, Erick James Valler of Westminster, CO, Laura Michelle Halt (husband, Eric Alan Halt) of Fishers, IN; mother, Martha Chidsey of Chestertown, MD; brothers, Stephen Chidsey of Ashland, VA and Thomas Chidsey of Sandy, UT; many loving cousins.
The family would like to thank the team of excellence that surrounded her in her fight – without the talent of Dr. Keith Logie and the competent staff at the Central Indiana Cancer Center she would have been ill-equipped for battle. Only with their skills was she able to enjoy the wedding of her daughter, the love of her friends and family, and her love of Butler Basketball.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, that any donations reflect her love of animals, and her love of her dachshunds (Jack and Boo) – she was fond of animal rescue, so donations should be given to a pet rescue of the donor’s choice or to the Humane Society for Hamilton County.
