Martha Brunsma

December 23, 1921 — February 18, 2012

Martha Charlotte "Jenny" Brunsma 90, passed away February 18, 2012. Jenny was born in Columbus, Nebraska. She left Nebraska in 1943 to join the Woman's Army Auxiliary Corp (now WAC) proudly serving for 2 ½ years, first as a recruiter in Terre Haute and then at the Federal Building in downtown Indianapolis. It was there that Jenny met "Dick" Brunsma and married him after a whirlwind courtship. She was preceded in death by husband, Dick and grandson Pete. Jenny is survived by three daughters, Jenny Younger (Kenneth), Barbara Brock, and Donna Brunsma, three grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. Jenny was also known as "Ziggy" after a reporter at the Indianapolis News included some of her scouting antics in his "Did You Notice" column. It read, "Did you notice a scout leader zig zagging up and down the steps with her scouts in tow at Tab?" She was also known as "Big Chief Ziggy" at Pine Knoll Day Camp where she was the director. Jenny worked at Butler University from 1958 to 1989, where she enjoyed serving as Butler's Postmistress, from 1964-1977. Jenny was also active in The Scottish Rite Widows Friendship Circle, Honored Ladies of the Shrine, the Women's Department Club, Marion County Homemakers, Women's Organization to the Mobile Postal Service, the Indianapolis Council of Women, and the Riviera Club, serving as president of many of these organizations. She was also a member of Millersville Order of the Eastern Star and volunteered at Crossroads. Jenny worked hard all of her life and believed that friends make life worthwhile. Private funeral services have already taken place. Memorial contributions may be made to the Jenny Brunsma Scholarship for the Performing Arts Fund at Butler University, Office of University Advancement, 4600 Sunset Avenue, Indianapolis, IN, 46208. Or if you wish, "just do a good deed for someone in need." You are invited to go to the Guest Book page to pass along your personal message or tell a story. Sincerely, -Your friends at Flanner and Buchanan
