Marla Kay Hicks

August 23, 1965 — August 20, 2014

Marla Kay Hicks, 48, Indianapolis, passed away August 20, 2014, surrounded by her family. She was born August 23, 1965 to Charles and Darleen (Miller) Campbell. Marla was a member of the class of 1983 of Warren Central High School. She had worked briefly at Indiana National Bank, but worked mostly in retail in later years. Marla was last employed at Dollar General in Beech Grove where she had been for years. She was a down to earth woman who was feisty and not afraid to tell it like it was. Marla had a huge heart and helped all of us over the years. She loved to go camping, gardening, reading and loved a good bargain at a garage sale. On August 28, 1983, Marla married Billy J. Hicks, who preceded her in death in 2008. She was also preceded by her grandparents, Wilma Miller, Delbert Miller, Helena Campbell, and George Campbell, her mother-in-law, Patty Hicks, her father-in-law, Willie Hicks, and her brothers-in-law, Dale Wolfarth and Greg Ahlgrim. Marla is survived by her daughter, Amanda L. Hicks (fiancé Brian A. Doran); her granddaughter, Caitlin N. Hicks; her grandson, Levi A. J. Doran; her mother and father, Darleen and Charles Campbell; her sisters, Sonnie Kramer, Debbie Wolfarth, and Laura Cowman; her brothers-in-law, Craig Cowman, Jacky Hicks, Willie Hicks, and Mark Smith; her sister-in-law, Lisa Smith, Diane Ahlgrim, Donna Jordan, Missy Hicks, and Jennifer Hicks; her nieces, Erin Roush, Emily Ahlgrim, Shelby Hicks, Shayna Hicks, Sydney Hicks, Sonya Hicks, and Sammi Hicks; her newphews, Jacob Wolfarth, Jimmy Cowman, Eric Ahlgrim, Freddy Ahlgrim, Matt Smith, and Ethan Smith; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and great-nieces and great-nephews; and her special friend and working buddy, Gina Rudd. Services will be on Saturday, August 23 at 1 PM at Flanner and Buchanan- Memorial Park, 9350 E. Washington Street, with visitation from 11 AM until service time. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial gifts may be made to the Indiana Chapter of the American Cancer Society. The family would like to thank Dr. Argawala and Dr. Patel from Community East Cancer Centers for their loving care. There are no words to describe how much Marla will be missed.
