Markham "Hambone" Blane

Markham Blane was the son of James J. Blane and Carrie Mae McQueen. He was born on December 23, 1959 in Indianapolis, Indiana.

He professed a hope in Christ at an early age  He attended Indianapolis Public Schools and was a graduate of Arsenal Technical High School 1979.

Markham loved eating, skating, swimming, dancing, playing and watching sports, playing cards, various games of chance, grilling, driving his riding mower at school and at his house, and traveling but most of all HE LOVED HIS FAMILY!

Mark married Carol Burkett Magoon on June 9, 2001, and enjoyed spending summers on Manitoulin Island, Ontario, Canada with her since 1984. He helped build their cabin; made many wonderful friends; and took his granddaughter, Mariah, there for a couple summers. Mark was also able to travel to Vancouver and Tofino, British Columbia, Canada, to visit family. He was the life of the party everywhere he went.

Markham worked at Indianapolis Public Schools (IPS) his entire career of 39 years. He began at Cold Springs Elementary School, spent many years at Northwest High School, and finished his last few years at Crispus Attucks High School. Mark retired from IPS January 22, 2020.

He was a long-time devoted member of Greater Gethsemane Missionary Baptist Church in Indianapolis, IN under Pastor Emeritus Rev. Wesley Manning Sr. and now Pastor James A. Green where he loved to Listen to and Read God’s Word, Usher Ministry was his where his heart was, he always helped with the elderly and was a Master of Ceremony for a Men’s Day. Markham would work wherever he could for the Lord with love, charisma and a big smile!

His Son (Markham Jamaar Blane), Dad (Willie B. McQueen), Father (James J. Blane), Sisters Barbara Morse, Shirley Jones and Mother Carrie Mae McQueen preceded him in death.

Markham Blane departed his life to his eternal home on Saturday, December 12, 2020.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Carol; stepchildren: Julie (Alain) Desaulniers of Canada; Bonnie Helton of Indianapolis; Maggie (Robert Roe) Magoon of Michigan; Ryan Magoon of Canada; Andrew (Mei Yeing Chin) Magoon of Canada. Grandchildren: Mariah Blane of Indianapolis; Kristina Desaulniers of Canada; Maria (Marcus Puharich) Desaulniers of Canada; Lysanne (Mark Sanchez) Desaulniers of Canada; Etienne Desaulniers of Canada; and Tara Helton of Indianapolis. Great-grandchildren: Ava and Emma Sanchez, Indiana Rhodes and and Henry Puharich of Canada.

Brothers: Ronnie Henderson, Steven Blane, Robert Harris Jr., Willie B. McQueen Jr., Anthony (Beatrice) Beverly; Sisters Mary Etta Fuqua, Eleena Morse, Cheryl Turner, Bertha (Dwain) Freeman, a host of cherished aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, life-long friends, other friends and acquaintances.
