Mark A. Mayse, 54, of Indianapolis, Indiana passed away surrounded by family on July 19, 2016. He was born in Indianapolis June 2, 1962. Mark is the son of Sharon Callis and Billy Mayse. In 1982, he married Ann C. Julian at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Evansville, Indiana. Mark and Ann Mayse have been married 34 years. Mark has survived by his wife Ann Mayse and two daughters Emily L. Mayse and Sarah A Mayse. He was the beloved brother of Debbie Cline, and Mick Mayse.
Mark worked as a foil stamp/emboss specialist at Herff Jones for 13 years and D.E. Baugh Co. for 22 years. Mark was an avid community volunteer. He was active in Jaycees, JCI senate, public safety director for Hawthorne neighborhood association, WeCare neighborhood association, Stringtown neighborhood association, and Sons of the American Legion. Mark was first diagnosed with chronic lymphocytic leukemia on October 25, 1999. After several rounds of chemo he went into his first remission, which lasted for 9 years. During that time Mark lived his life to the fullest and spent most of his free time giving back to his community and friends anyway that he could. Mark also developed a passion for electronics and music, which he used to DJ various community programs and festivals.
After the extended remission Mark had several relapses of his CLL and later developed a new more aggressive form of cancer called acute myeloid leukemia. Still, Mark did not let these relapses slow him down. When Mark was able, even during chemo treatments he continued to lend a hand to any person in need. Mark continuously surprised his doctors and friends overcoming each hospital stay, even when his chances of remission were so low. His passion for life and his determination allowed him to overcome his cancer each time he relapsed. Each triumph earned Mark the chance to experience more important life events and memories. Each experience he gained was another miracle earned in his eyes.
Mark was recently able to attend both of his daughter’s college graduations. Mark was also the first to know of his daughter Sarah’s passing of her nursing state boards just last week. Mark battled his cancer for 17+ years. Each year following his diagnosis was a true miracle. We were all blessed that God granted Mark the opportunity to live those extra 17 years. He was granted those remissions to allow him to continue his great works and achievements. Mark was truly an outstanding husband, father, and community leader. He will always be remembered as the selfless man who always wore an enormous smile on his face, an Indiana Jones hat on his head, and a big plate of crab legs (dipped in enormous amounts of butter) in front of him. Even though his life was short, Mark’s life was truly full of love and happiness. His presence will greatly be missed, but his memory will forever be in our hearts.
Services for Mark include his viewing from 4:00pm-8:00pm on Friday July 22nd at Flanner and Buchanan located at 2950 N High School Road, Speedway, IN 46224. His funeral will be at St. Anthony Catholic Church at 10:00am on Saturday July 23rd located at 349 N Warman Ave, Indianapolis, IN 46222.
