Marjorie Paton

June 5, 1935 — December 14, 2024

McCordsville

McCordsville, Indiana – Marjorie “Margie” Paton, 89, passed away peacefully on December 14, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Born on June 5, 1935, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to Charles and Grace (Rice) Moore, Margie embodied a hardworking spirit, a deep love for her family, and a touch of endearing stubbornness.

Margie dedicated 23 proud years to Wonder Bread, working long, hot shifts in the factory while still finding time to be fully present for her family. Her daughters fondly remember delivering milkshakes to Margie on sweltering summer days, brightening her afternoons. No matter how exhausting her workday had been, Margie never missed a chance to cheer on her daughters at their horse events. Julie competed in barrel racing, and Jill showed in western pleasure. Margie’s silly bets helped ease their nerves before they stepped into the arena, turning tense moments into cherished memories. Residing at Lucky J Stables, she cultivated a deep love for horses, including a descendant of Kentucky Derby winner Northern Dancer.

Margie met her beloved husband, John Paton, when he came to her door selling insurance on the southside of Indianapolis. She knew instantly that everything would be okay, and they built a life of love and partnership for 53 wonderful years before John’s passing in 2017. Together, they raised their children with love and determination, creating a home full of warmth and family traditions.

When she wasn’t tending to the horses or the yard, Margie enjoyed cheering on basketball teams with her family, from the early American Basketball Association days to today’s Indiana Pacers. She found joy in puzzles, sharing afternoons coloring with her great-granddaughter Meleah, and savoring an ice-cold Pepsi.

Margie was preceded in death by her husband, John Paton; her parents, Charles and Grace Moore; and her sister, Charlene Grider (Clifford).

She leaves behind a legacy of love and strength through her children, Jill Paton-Newerth and Julie Morganti, and her son, John O’Connor. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Molly Hancock (Braylon) and Shelby Paton-Newerth; and her great-grandchildren, Meleah Miller, Ellis Hancock, and Clayton Hancock.

Visitation will be held on Friday, December 20, 2024, at Flanner Buchanan – Washington Park East (10722 East Washington Street, Indianapolis, Indiana 46229) from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m., with funeral services following at 3:00 p.m., officiated by Charlie Ketchum.

Margie will be remembered for her unwavering dedication to her family, her sense of humor, and the enduring love she shared with all who knew her.

The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to Suburban Hospice for their excellent care of Marjorie.
