Marjorie Morgan

September 19, 1917 — July 30, 2014

Marjorie Morgan Widow of Weldon Morgan, died Wednesday, July 30th. She would have been 97 years old on September 19th. Mrs. Morgan attended Indiana Central College and received her B.S. and Masters Degrees in education from Butler University. She taught 4th grade for 42 years. Her lengthy teaching career began at the age of 20 at Crooked Creek School where she remained for 21 years. She then taught in the Pike Township Schools for another 21 years, first at Pike Central Elementary and then at Guion Creek School. Her husband, Weldon Morgan, spent his entire 41 year teaching career in the Pike Township Schools as instrumental music teacher and Band Director. In addition to her own teaching career, Marjorie was a devoted and enthusiastic participant and supporter of all her husband's music and band activities. Upon their retirements in 1988, Marjorie and Weldon were honored as Pike Township Teachers of the Year. Marjorie loved her chosen profession and the children she had the privilege of teaching. In her eyes, every child had exciting potential and she sought to inspire and encourage, as well as teach. She had detailed recollections of all her students, even those at the beginning of her career, remembering where they sat in her classroom, their parent's names, where they lived and the names and ages of their siblings. Marjorie remained energetic and enthusiastic well into her later years. In her late 80's she readily accepted an invitation to join a couple of friends for a ride in a 4 seater air plane at Eagle Creek Air Park for a nighttime tour of the Indianapolis sky line. Until February, she lived in her own apartment. A lifetime member of Crooked Creek Baptist Church, Marjorie is believed to have been a member of that congregation longer that any other person. Calling will be at Flanner & Buchanan Broad Ripple, on Saturday, August 9th from10:00 a.m. until services at 11:00 a.m. with burial to follow at Union Chapel Cemetery. A luncheon at Crooked Creek Baptist Church will follow burial. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Crooked Creek Baptist Church, 5540 N. Michigan Rd. , Indpls. 46228
