Marjorie (Winzenread) Thomas 89 of Carmel, Indiana passed away peacefully with her daughters by her side.
Born to Melvin and Margaret (Alerding) Winzenread September 25, 1936, Marjorie was the eldest of 10 children and loved her siblings fiercely. She was so proud to be their sister and loved helping them grow and encouraging them. She graduated from St. John’s Academy, St. Vincent’s School of Nursing and The University of St. Francis. Marjorie retired from a lifelong career of service as a surgical nurse at St. Vincents Hospital.
Marjorie was a devout and faithful Catholic. She loved her faith and her family. She was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and friend to many.
She enjoyed walking, ice skating, snow skiing, water skiing, boating, playing tennis and golf and traveling, especially pilgrimages to Holy places. She was an incredible seamstress and enjoyed figuring out patterns while sewing, quilting and knitting.
She was a member of the All Girls Catholic Academy Alumni Association, St. Vincent’s School of Nursing Alumni Association, Hill Crest Garden Club, an active member of Christ Renews His Parish, Cursillo and the Sisters in Christ.
Funeral service will be held Monday at 11:30 AM at Our Lady Mt. Carmel Catholic Church 14598 Oakridge Road Carmel, Indiana. Visitation will be Sunday July 5, 2026, at Flanner & Buchannan Funeral Center Carmel, Indiana from 5-8 PM with a Holy Rosary service at 7:45. An additional calling will be Monday one hour prior to service at the church.
Marjorie is survived by her daughters, Constance (Wesley) Young and Angela (Jeff) Santos. She was Yia Yia to Nicholas, William, John & Wesley and Caroline, Colleen, Christina & Zachary, brother, Melvin (Mickey) Winzenread, sisters, Marleen (Winzenread) Norton, Mary (Winzenread) Dale, brother, Mark Winzenread, and sister, Madonna (Winzenread) Kasting.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Melvin and Margaret, her loving husband William (Bill), brothers, Michael & Martin Winzenread and sisters, Marcia (Winzenread) Sauer & Melissa (Winzenread) Brown.
Burial will be at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Little Sisters of the Poor or the St. Vincent’s Nursing Scholarship Fund.
The family of Marjie would like to express their deep appreciation and gratitude to the dedicated staff of Sunrise Senior Living in Carmel and the compassionate team at Compassus Hospice Care. Your kindness, support, and unwavering care for Marjie during this time of need have brought comfort and strength to the entire family. Your presence made a difficult journey gentler, and your compassion will always be remembered.
