Marjorie Ellen (Chapin) Schunk 90 of Indianapolis died January 22, 2017. Marjorie was born on April 12, 1926 In Buffalo, NY. to Melvin C. and Mary H. (Powell) Chapin. Marjorie was Valedictorian of her class at Seton Hill College where she graduated Magna Cum Laude with majors in both Math and Latin. Later, she would go on to earn additional degrees from Marian College and a Master’s Degree in Math from Butler University. Upon graduating from Seton Hill, Marjorie worked as a “human computer” for Cornell Aeronautical Laboratory in Buffalo, and then for Bell AeroSystems in Wheatfield, NY. She later taught both Math and Latin at Crispus Attucks High School and Arsenal Technical High School in Indianapolis. She cared deeply for her students and always strove to help them believe in themselves and excel. She continued to tutor students in math for several years after her retirement.
She married Arthur M. Schunk on June 30, 1951 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Buffalo. She retired from teaching in 1990 and moved to New Smyrna Beach, FL where she was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She served as a Eucharistic minister for shut-ins, and served for several years as President of the Legion of Mary. She was an avid gardener and the 1995 winner of the Fairgreen Garden Club Garden of The Year Award for the most impressive garden.
Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, David and Ron Chapin; and her sister, Ruth Mary Chapin Coleman.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Arthur M. Schunk; brother, Paul (Sue) of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; children, Arthur (Cynthia Egli) of Bloomington, MN, Michael (Kathy) of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, David (Lisa) of Bloomington, IN, Mary (Jeff) Louden of Indianapolis, IN, Peter (Maile) of Manassas, VA; grandchildren, Lee, David, Susie, John, Christopher, Angelina, Marjorie; and great-grandchildren, Lisa, Lily, Anthony John (AJ), Jacob David (JD), Austin, and Andrew.
Funeral and visitation with be private (family only, please) at the following times.

Procession of cars to Oaklawn Memorial Gardens, 9700 Allisonville Road, Indianapolis, IN 46250. There will be a short graveside service.
Catered Lunch from 1-4 at American Senior Communities in the Washington Manor Building, 1802 East 54th Street, Indianapolis, IN 46220 in the Ford Room. Catering will be Bob Evans (family friendly).
