Marion Francis Werler

Marion Francis Werler 90, passed away on May 5, 2014. A true member of "The Greatest Generation," Marion always believed in doing his best, never complaining, and standing for what is the greatest of America. He was born in Indianapolis on June 2, 1923 to Beulah and Edward Werler and attended Arsenal Technical High School. Like many other young men of his generation, Marion left school before graduation to join the US Army in 1942 after the Pearl Harbor attack. In the US Army Medical Corps, he served aboard ships in the Atlantic and Pacific throughout the war. When recently asked what countries he visited during his service across the world, he included England, France, Italy, Gibraltar, Panama, the Philippines, Saipan and many other locations around the world. Upon his discharge from the Army, Marion became an electrician and a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers local 481. He worked as a master electrician for his entire working career and was also a partner in Shank Electric Company during the 1970s. Marion was married for more than 40 years to Marion Ruth Werler, who passed away in 1999. He is survived by his son Michael James Werler (Carmel), his brother Edward Werler of Damariscotta, Maine, and his daughter-in-law Mary Jean Woods. He was preceded in death by his stepson, Patrick Woods. Visitation will be held Thursday, May 15 from 5:00 – 7:00 pm at Flanner & Buchanan-Carmel, 325 E Carmel Dr, Carmel, IN 46032, with a memorial service including military honors beginning at 7:00 pm. The family would like to thank the dedicated nursing staff at Community Hospital North PCU and the compassionate staff of Community Health Home Hospice.
