Marilyn Schako Rogers, 92, passed away March 18, 2016. She was born October 30, 1923, in Indianapolis, the daughter of the late Alfred and Elsie (Thomas) Schako. She married Robert Rogers on June 30, 1950, at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Dayton, Ohio.
Marilyn received her Bachelor of Science in 1945 from Ohio University, where she was also a member of Chi Omega sorority. While living in Dayton, Marilyn worked for Frigidaire as an Executive Assistant. She was active in the Women’s Literary Club, Dayton Women’s Club, and the Garden Club. Marilyn and Bob had 3 daughters, Martha, Sarah and Margaret.
Robert and Marilyn, and their family, moved and settled in Indianapolis in 1960. She was an active member of Northminster Presbyterian Church, where she served as an elder and deacon and participated in Tandem and Ladies Bible Study. She enjoyed volunteering at her daughters’ elementary school and joining the Antiques Club, Swim Club, and the Indianapolis Sailing Club. She was also talented watercolorist. Always an avid reader and member of book clubs, she worked as a librarian for Washington Township Schools. She and Robert enjoyed traveling extensively with the Road Scholar travel group (formerly Elder Hostel.)
She is survived by her loving husband of almost 66 years, Robert Rogers; three daughters, Martha (Gary) Scudder, Sarah (Steve) Pogue, Margaret (Ron) Blevins; 11 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
Memorial services will be 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 22, 2016, at Northminster Presbyterian Church, 1660 Kessler Boulevard East. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service at the church. Memorial contributions may be directed to Northminster Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund. Arrangements were entrusted to Flanner and Buchanan – Broad Ripple.
