Greenfield, Indiana – Marilyn Powell, 87, passed away on May 2, 2025, while being comforted by her children and dear friends. Her kindness, loving attitude, and sincere generosity will be deeply missed.
Marilyn was born on April 30, 1938, in Amo, Indiana, to parents Curtis & Bertha (Cook) Justus. She attended Lawrence Central High School and graduated in 1957. That same year, Marilyn married the love of her life, Charles Powell. They celebrated 42 years of marriage before his unfortunate passing in 1999.
She worked at Kroger as a baker for over thirty years before her retirement. She also was a proud, 50-year member of The Order of the Eastern Star, receiving her gold pin. She was a member of the Red Hat Society as well. When she was younger, Marilyn took part in many dressage competitions and became a member of the Silver Saddles when older.
Marilyn, when she found time to relax, would love to do puzzles, bowl, and play cards. She was also an accomplished artist, whose paintings are still appreciated by many of her family and friends.
More than anything else though, Marilyn loved her family. She was there for any member at any time, willing to help as they needed.
In addition to her parents, Marilyn is preceded in death by her husband Charles Powell, brother William Justus, and children Charles Powell (Julie) and Debra Jones (Ralph).
Marilyn is survived by her son, Robert Powell (Cathi); grandchildren Christopher Brandon Powell, Patrick Curtis Powell (Chelsea), greatgrandchildren Lilly Powell, and Carson Powell; grandchild Ashley Vespo, great-grandchildren Kamryn Vespo; grandchild Christy Krause, great-grandchildren Arizona Krause and Indiana Krause; and brother Jack Justus.
A memorial service will be held at a later date, please keep an eye on this space for updates.
