Marilyn Phillips

Marilyn H. Phillips, 87 of Indianapolis, passed away Sunday, May 8, 2011. She was born in Elkhart, Indiana on March 11, 1924 to George and Deloscia Hosmer. She was a proud graduate of Shortridge High School’s Class of 1942. Marilyn was a 1946 graduate of Butler University where she was a member of Tri-Delta sorority. She received her Masters Degree in Social Work from Indiana University and soon lived her passion as a social worker at the Indiana Girls School and Indianapolis Public Schools, from which she retired. She was a member of North United Methodist Church for over 70 years. Marilyn belonged to the Society of Mayflower Descendents, Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Hoosier Doll Collectors. She enjoyed researching her family history and was an avid bridge player. Survivors include her daughters Diane Shirley (Kent) and Marsha Reynolds (Tom); seven grandchildren, Todd Shirley, Mark Shirley, Matthew Foley, Suzanne Hardacre (Joe), Megan Hershey (Nate), Kristin Wineberg (Will) and Patrick Foley; seven great-grandchildren, Olivia, Noah, Sofia, Julia, Luke, Lillian, and Mia; three step-grandchildren, Natalie Davis (Tom), Emily Reynolds, and Alicia Reynolds; sister Betty Hosmer Mawardi, step-sister Janet Gray Hayes, and several nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 11:00 A.M.on Friday, May 13 at North United Methodist Church at 38th and Meridian St. with Rev. Robert Schilling officiating. Visitation will be Thursday, May 12 from 4:00-8:00 P.M. at Flanner and Buchanan Funeral Center-Broad Ripple and one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at Crown Hill Cemetery, immediately following the service. Memorial contributions may be made to North United Methodist Church or the Salvation Army.
