Obituary

Marillyn Morrow Gwinn, 92, of Westfield, Indiana, went to be with the Lord on February 12, 2026. She was born November 19, 1933 in Hartford City, Indiana, where she grew up. Her parents were Clyde and Gladys (Fredrick) Schwaner.

Marillyn attended Stephens College and then graduated from Indiana University. She later obtained her Master’s Degree in art education from Ball State University. After graduation from IU, she married Mahlon Gene Morrow, and together they had four children: Greg, Craig, Doug and Vickie. She and Gene built a house together in Carmel, IN for their family. They attended White Chapel Church for many years. Marillyn taught art for more than 40 years at several elementary schools in Carmel, including Orchard Park Elementary School and Woodbrook Elementary School. Outside the classroom, she utilized her artistic skills by painting beautiful watercolors and painting ceramics. After retirement from teaching, she enjoyed working part-time at the Fishers YMCA and volunteering for Symphony on the Prairie concerts at Conner Prairie in Noblesville.

Marillyn was an avid reader all her life. She was also a long-time Indianapolis Colts fan, watching and following all their games. Her 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren brought her much joy! Marillyn loved to travel and had the opportunity to visit many countries outside the United States, including China, Italy and Mexico. Following her husband Gene’s passing in 1974 from a heart attack at age 45, she later married John Gwinn. They remained married for more than 25 years until he passed away, and in the latter years of her life, she was best friends with Dave Bigley until his death in 2024.

Marillyn is survived by her children: Greg (Nan) Morrow, Craig (Tina) Morrow, Doug (Robin) Morrow, and Vickie (Jim) Morris; 11 grandchildren: Josh and Jake Morrow, Emily and Chris Morrow, Ashley, Justin, Chelsea, Shelby, Rachel and Brayden Morrow, and Lyndsey Morris. She is also survived by 14 great-grandchildren, her sister-in-law Linda Schwaner, and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands Gene Morrow and John Gwinn, her brothers John and Fred Schwaner, and her daughter-in-law Lieu Anna Morrow.

Marillyn Morrow Gwinn will be laid to rest at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery at a date yet to be determined.
