Marie A. Hunter, 89, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on October 18, 2015. She was born August 7, 1926 in Indianapolis, IN to the late Clyde Hoover and Magdalena (Johantges) Hoover.
While working in the mail department at Eli Lilly, Marie met Howard Curly Hunter, who worked there as a chemist. They were married in January 1947. Soon after marriage they attended a Youth for Christ Rally and gave their lives to Jesus Christ. The couple became vital members of the body of Christ at Berean Missionary Baptist Church, now known as University Heights Baptist Church. Marie served the Lord as a Sunday school teacher and choir member for many years.
During these years she became a buyer of womens clothing and a sales clerk at L. Strauss & Co, a high end department store in Indianapolis. When the store closed in the late 70s she worked as a model home attendant and show person for Ryan Homes in Indianapolis. She was also a homemaker and beloved mother of three daughters.
During the early 90s she became the prime caregiver for Curly who had been diagnosed with Parkinsons Disease in the early 80s. Despite the stress of these challenges she remained active as a devoted grandmother to her teenage granddaughters and grandson. Her family was Maries most important treasure and she devoted her time, energy and prayers to each one. She always gave of herself to whoever was in need. Even in her later years, though suffering from progressing dementia, she continued to show love and gratitude to those around her. She truly was a servant of God.
Marie was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Curly in 2003. She is survived by her three daughters; Sylvia Hunter, Paula (Walter) Sherman, and Sara (Tim) Ritter; seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
