Margot Rice, 93, Indianapolis, IN passed away on September 16, 2022. Margot was born in Germany on the Poland/Germany border on March 14, 1929, to parents, Paul and Marta (Stefeck) Sobel. She fled from Poland during WWII and was raised by her grandmother. Margot met the love of her life, Edwin L. Rice, Jr., a soldier in the U.S. Army, on his birthday and the two were married in Kitzingen, Germany on September 24, 1949. Margot and Edwin had five children: Roland, Michael, Ed, Diana, and Barbara. She devoted her time to her husband and raising her children. Once the children were older, Margot entered the workforce and went on to retire from PX Fort Harrison, where she managed the uniform department. She was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church and the VFW Fort Harrison Post 7119 Auxiliary. She and Edwin enjoyed travelling, especially in Western United States.
Margot was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, Edwin Rice; one brother and one sister. She is survived by her children: Roland Rice (Elizabeth), Michael Rice (Jean), Ed Rice (Linda), Diana Vogel (Kelly) and Barbara Louder; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; and many other loving extended family and beloved friends.
Visitation will be held from 11am until 1pm, Wednesday, September 21, 2022, at Flanner Buchanan-Washington Park East (10722 E. Washington Street, Indianapolis), where funeral services will immediately follow beginning at 1pm. Entombment will follow services in Washington Park East Cemetery.
