Margie Birdwell

Margie Birdwell, 100, passed from this life to her eternal home on April 13, 2024. She was born on March 30, 1924, in Wrigley, Tennessee to Lish and Maggie Hudspeth. She was one of nine children. She married Leonard Birdwell in Franklin, Kentucky on August 31, 1941. Leonard and Margie lived in Franklin Township and Wanamaker where they raised their children James and Linda. She was active in Franklin Township Volunteer Fire Dept. Auxiliary and Maple Hill Methodist Church. She also mothered 8 foster children. She was a wonderful mother and cook, everything from fried chicken to fried alligator. After retirement, Leonard and Margie moved to Okeechobee, Florida where they spent their time fishing with family and friends and serving at Brighton Baptist Church. When Leonard passed away in 1998 Margie Stayed in Florida until her health and her family brought her back to Indiana. She lived 10 years at North Woods Assisted Living and Enjoyed many friendships and had wonderful care. She moved to Century Villa in 2022. She received excellent loving care there.

Margie is survived by her children, James (Phyllis) Birdwell of Indianapolis and Linda (Larry) Edwards of Kokomo; her grandchildren, Chad (Jennifer) Edwards of Lafayette, IN, Karen Jean (Brian) Birdwell of Indianapolis, Craig (Kellyann) Edwards of Fort Wayne, Keith (Diane) Birdwell of Indianapolis; and 4 great grandchildren, Hadley, Issabella, Aiden, and Alexis.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and siblings, Paul, James, Carl, Sibyl, William, Jean, Winnie, and Christine.

A visitation will be held on Monday, April 22, 2024, from 11AM-1PM at Flanner Buchanan—Washington Park East, 10722 E. Washington St. Indianapolis, Indiana, 46229. A funeral service will start at 1PM. Margie will be laid to rest in Washington Park East Cemetery.

In honor of Margie and in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
