Margaret Sutton

December 10, 1925 — January 30, 2011

Margaret Turns Brown Sutton, 85, formerly of Indianapolis, died January 30, 2011. Born in 1925 in Oak Park, IL as Margaret Boies Turns, she moved with her family during the Great Depression to Aurora, IN. She was a graduate of Indiana University and a member of the Delta Gamma sorority. She was an active member of the St. Margaret’s Guild and of Tabernacle Presbyterian Church. In 1948, she wed James Lee Brown and they raised their family in Indianapolis. Her husband Jim preceded her in death in 1988, and in 1997 she returned to Aurora where she married to Carroll Sutton, a former classmate. Survivors include her children, Carol (husband Thomas) Lambert of Ft. Wayne IN and Alan (wife Mary Jo) Brown of Evanston, IL; grandchildren, Jennifer Ann and James Michael Lambert and Katherine Lee and Caroline Margaret Brown; and husband, Carroll Sutton of Aurora. She was a strong-willed, direct speaking woman who accepted the challenges that life presented her without any thoughts of complaining. The Great Depression shaped her practical and cost conscientious ways. She was a loving and generous mother and grandmother with a good dose of discipline and and a firm hand. "Margy" and Jim Brown had a wide circle of friends from their decades in Indianapolis, involvement with Indiana University, the Columbia Club and St. Margarets Guild. The whole family went to IU's only trip to the Rose Bowl in 1967-68 for a very memorable trip. The annual trips to Brown County State Park reinforced the whole family's love for Southern Indiana and the numerous artists of Nashville. Her collection is shared and enjoyed by her children and grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial gifts be made to the American Cancer Society. Funeral Services will be 1 p.m., Friday, February 4, at Tabernacle Presbyterian Church, where friends may call one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Crown Hill Cemetery. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Flanner and Buchanan Funeral Center – Broad Ripple. Thoughts may be shared with the family by visiting: www.flannerbuchanan.com
