It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Margaret “Peg” J. Nicodemus of Indianapolis, Indiana, on October 16, 2026, at the age of 66. Peg was born on September 9, 1960, in Albany, New York, to Richard and Margaret (Carney) Coughlin. Peg spent her early years in upstate New York and Morristown, New Jersey, before her family relocated to Indianapolis, which she would call home for the rest of her life. At just 17, she began a relationship with Carl Nicodemus that would grow into a lifetime of love, friendship, and partnership. They married in 1983 and built a life together centered on family, adventure, and an enduring love for one another.
Peg’s greatest joy was her family. She and Carl raised three children—Chris, Andy, and Courtney—and she cherished the life they built together. She found meaning in both life’s milestones and its everyday moments, from family gatherings around the dinner table to quiet moments spent together. Being a wife, mother, and grandmother was among her greatest sources of happiness, and her love for her family was unwavering.
Peg was also deeply committed to helping others. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Philosophy from Purdue University and a master’s degree in Family and Marital Therapy from Butler University. She went on to establish her own private practice as a psychotherapist, dedicating her career to helping individuals and families navigate life’s challenges and relationships. Known for her compassion, integrity, and ability to meet others without judgment, Peg offered a welcoming and understanding presence to those who turned to her for support. Through her work, she made a lasting difference in the lives of many.
Deeply proud of her Irish heritage, Peg cherished her roots and enjoyed traveling with Carl, including memorable trips to Ireland and France. She appreciated the beauty of nature and found joy in taking walks, exploring new places, and embracing life’s adventures. She also loved cooking and expressing her affection through the meals she prepared and the time spent gathered around the table with family. Above all, Peg treasured the people she loved and the moments that made life meaningful.
After nearly 43 years of marriage, Peg leaves behind her beloved husband, Carl, her partner in life and adventure. She is also survived by her three children, Chris Nicodemus, Andy (Brandi) Nicodemus, and Courtney (Tyler) Rusomaroff; her five grandchildren, Brady, Madison, Peyton, Colin, and Palmer; and her brothers, Mike, Rick, Pat, and Kevin Coughlin. She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Margaret Coughlin, and her brother, Terry Coughlin.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Peg’s honor may be made to Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital through Ascension St. Vincent’s online donation page. https://give.stvincent.org/ways-to-give/donate/givenow
