Margaret Mcdowell Knobel

May 26, 1919 — July 11, 2012

Margaret McDowell Knobel 93, of Indianapolis peacefully went home to be with Jesus the morning of July 11, 2012. She was born on May 26, 1919 in Indianapolis and was a graduate of Shortridge High School. She met George Knobel of Nappanee while they were students at Butler University and then married during the war. During their marriage of 56 years, they remained close friends with dozens of their college buddies until his death 14 years ago. The friends they made remained close through out their lives. While at Butler she was a proud, active member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. For the last twelve years, Margaret resided at Summit Place West Assisted Living Facility. At Summit Place she made many friends, participated in the daily activities, and was a favorite resident of the staff. Her infectious sense of humor was a keynote of her personality. She and George were blessed with two sons and one daughter. Margaret is survived by: son James (Karene) Knobel, of Greenwood; son Robert (Johnna) Knobel, of South Bend; and daughter Patricia (Hans) Jurczak of Burlington, KY. Margaret adored and deeply loved her 5 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Margaret's smiles will be greatly missed, as will her hugs. She was always tickled by any actions of her grandkids and great grandkids. In her younger years, Margaret enjoyed playing golf, playing cards, and helping with Vacation Bible School at Traders Point Christian Church, her long-time church home. She was also a member of Alpha Pi Omega Sorority. Her loving husband George preceded Margaret in death. A family service will be held on Saturday, July 14, 2012 at 2:00 at Gothic Chapel at Crown Hill Cemetery with calling from 1:30.. She will be laid to rest in Crown Hill Cemetery alongside her husband. Arrangements by Flanner & Buchanan-Speedway. Since Margaret had been a past volunteer, donations may be made to Goodwill Industries. You are invited to go to the Guest Book page to pass along your personal message or tell a story. Sincerely, -Your friends at Flanner and Buchanan
