Margaret A. (Burres) May, age 74, of Indianapolis, passed away peacefully on June 21, 2026. She was born on August 13, 1951 to parents Stephen and Margaret Burres.
Margie grew up in Broad Ripple and graduated from Broad Ripple High School in 1969. She attended Ball State University and majored in nursing, which would become her lifelong career.
During college, she was a member of Sigma Kappa Sorority and made several lifelong friends. She also met her husband, Dennis, at Ball State and they were married in 1978. Together they created a life and family full of laughter, faith, and countless memories, including wild work stories shared around the dinner table and many beloved pets.
Margie is survived by her husband, Dennis; children Sarah (Matthew) Holland and Ross (Emily) May, grandchildren Grayson and Avery, sister-in-law Marilyn Burres, brother, Warren (Evelyn) Burres, sister-in-law Terri (Kenneth) Young, and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her brother, Stephen Burres, Jr.
Margie will be remembered for her one-of-a-kind laugh, for her deeply caring nature, her love of family, and her outgoing personality. She never met a stranger and always wanted to take care of those around her – family, friends, even strangers.
As a member of Irvington Presbyterian Church for many years, Margie loved to sing and had a beautiful singing voice. She had a profound love of animals, which she passed on to her children and grandchildren. She will also be remembered for her love of shopping, gift-giving, and her inability to just sit still, a result of her 38 years as an emergency room nurse at Methodist Hospital.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation or IndyHumane.
Visitation will be held on Friday, June 26, 2026 from 12:00PM to 2:00PM at Flanner Buchanan – Washington Park East. A funeral service will follow at 2:00PM. Burial will take place at Washington Park East Cemetery.
