Margaret Marie Hiatt

Margaret Marie Hiatt, born on March 17, 1932 in Wooster, Ohio, died May 13, 2016 in Indianapolis, following complications from surgery. She was 84.

Margaret was the daughter of Dr. Vergil E. and Marie Rowls Hiatt. She graduated from Hanover College in 1954 and received an M.Sc. degree from Ohio State University. She worked for the Indiana State Board of Health as a food microbiologist for many years prior to her retirement in 1992. For the last several years, Margaret lived at Hooverwood in Indianapolis. She was an exceptionally pleasant individual who was an avid reader of detective and mystery novels.

Margaret was an active member of Second Presbyterian Church of Indianapolis, where she served as a deacon. She served as a tutor for Westminster Neighborhood Ministries.

Margaret is survived by her brother, Dr. Richard Hiatt of St. Catherine's, Ontario, Canada, and by many members of her extended family. Cousins who live in the Indianapolis metropolitan area include Tom (Nora) Hiatt, Dan (Pam) Hiatt, Sarah (Steve) Maple and Ann (Bob) Canada. She is also survived by her best friend, Linda Gilbert, of Indianapolis.

A memorial service will be held at Second Presbyterian Church on Tuesday, May 24, at 10 AM. Visitation will immediately follow the service in the church parlor. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Second Presbyterian Church, 7700 North Meridian Street, Indianapolis, IN 46260. Burial will be in Green Park Cemetery in Portland, Indiana. Arrangements handled by Flanner and Buchanan-Broad Ripple.
