Margaret MacKenzie (Peggy) Best passed away peacefully at her home on August 8th, 2015. Peggy was born on May 6, 1954 to William Best, Sr. and Ruby Best Haag. She is survived by her parents, step-mother Barbara Best, husband Rick Edwards, step-daughters Amy Edwards, Amy Carroll, Jeanne Heiden and her husband Jon, grandchildren Carson and Reese Heiden, sisters Amy Wilmouth and her husband Kevin, Deb Robertson and her husband Steve, brother Bill Best, several nieces, nephews, cousins and their children, and her beloved Weimaraner Haley.
Peggy attended North Central High School and graduated from Indiana University. She was a pioneer in the horse-drawn carriage business and started Yellow Rose Carriages, the first carriage company in Indianapolis, in 1983. Peggy succeeded in the business by putting the welfare of her horses first, and established a high standard for the industry. She was active in the Carriage Operators of North America, from which she gained many life-long friends. She shared her passion for horses with everyone she met. She was also active in the Indianapolis Police Horse Patrol and K-9 Associations.
Peggy was the embodiment of all things good and kind. She possessed a brightness and goodness that people were attracted to and loved, resulting in strong friendships across the country. She was gracious and generous, always putting the needs of others ahead of her own. She deeply loved all living things – from people to animals to the plants she so meticulously tended. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
A celebration of Peggy's life will be held on Friday, August 14th at Flanner and Buchanan – Decatur 5463 Kentucky Avenue, Indianapolis from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m.
