Margaret Lou Ellingwood

Margaret Lou Ellingwood passed away on October 15, 2022, at the age of 94.  Margaret was born in Indianapolis, IN on February 25, 1928, to parents, Samuel W. and Elsie (Lewis) Ernest.  Margaret was a graduate of Herron High School and worked as a bookkeeper during her career, retiring from O’Brien Toyota. She was an active member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Fortville Chapter, where she served in the past as their Grand Organist.  Margaret was a very outgoing person who loved cats and traveling.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel and Elsie; first husband, John Ellingwood; second husband, Mark Griffin; infant daughter, Judith Diane Ellingwood; son, John Ellingwood, II; and sister, Juanita Ligon.

Margaret is survived by her son, Samuel Ellingwood (Vicki); grandchildren: Sam Ellingwood and Alyssa (Ellingwood) Miller; and great-grandchildren, Kolton and Kaiser Miller and William, Margaret and Emily Ellingwood.

Order of the Eastern Star service will be held at 2pm on Thursday, October 20, 2022, at Flanner Buchanan-Washington Park East (10722 E. Washington Street, Indianapolis).  Burial will follow in Washington Park East Cemetery.  Memorial contributions in Margaret’s memory may be made to the Humane Society of Indianapolis.
