Margaret Ann Curtis, 87, entered into the presence of her Savior on June 1, 2026. She was born in Fowler, Indiana, on May 2, 1939, to Ford and Clara (Jones) Abbott. Margaret was one of eight children and grew up on the family farm. As a girl, she loved spelling, and some of her fondest memories were family gatherings at Thanksgiving and Christmas. The most important decision of her life was trusting in Jesus Christ as her Savior at the age of twelve. Another life-changing decision was marrying William Grant Curtis on September 24, 1961. Together they adopted a son, Todd Anthony, who was their only child. When she was younger, Margaret hoped to become a secretary and to learn to play the piano, and she was blessed to accomplish both. After becoming a mother, Margaret relished her role as a full-time homemaker, occasionally working at the school Todd attended. Early in their marriage, Bill and Margaret moved to Indianapolis. In 1980, Bill and Margaret became members of Burge Terrace Baptist Church, where they grew in their walk with God. Margaret ministered alongside Bill as he served as a deacon and Sunday School Superintendent at Burge Terrace. In 1995, they moved to Denver, Colorado to invest in the lives of their grandchildren and then moved back to Indianapolis in January 2001.
Margaret dearly loved her four grandchildren: Katie (Garrett) Fell, Kyrsten (Solomon) Kondeti, Kristina (Jacob) Lozano, and Jonathan (Kayla) Curtis. Margaret was also great-grandmother to two precious girls, Eden Lozano and Emorie Curtis. She will be remembered as a spunky and loving mother and grandmother who baked delicious desserts for every birthday and holiday celebration and gave cooking lessons to her granddaughters, each of whom learned to make some of her favorite recipes. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and spiritual mentor who desired to glorify her Savior, even through times of physical difficulty.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and six of her siblings: Vernon (Joanne) Abbott, Helen (Leonard) Nichols, Ron (Pam) Abbott, Mattie (Leo) Marion, Marilyn (Bussie-surviving) Holscher, and Ford Jr. (Janet) Abbott. She is survived by her younger brother, Wayne (Nicole) Abbott of Arizona.
Margaret was buried in a private ceremony at Forest Lawn Cemetery. Her Celebration of Life service will be held at Burge Terrace Baptist Church on Saturday, July 11, at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. Memorial gifts may be made to Burge Terrace Baptist Church.
