Marcia Van Dyke

Marcia E. Van Dyke, 76, passed away on September 9, 2026, surrounded by her family. Born in Seymour, Indiana, Marcia was a loving wife, mother, Mimi, and friend known for her generous heart and the care she gave to those around her.

Marcia shared 51 years of marriage with her beloved husband, Doug Van Dyke. Together, they built a life centered around family, faith, and the simple joys of being together. They raised their children, Amy and Eric, and created a lifetime of family memories. Doug preceded her in death on August 26, 2024.

Marcia attended Porter Business College and later worked at Boehringer Mannheim for 14 years. When her children were young, she opened her home as an in-home daycare provider for four years, caring for other children with the same patience and affection she gave her own.

She loved cooking and baking for her family, and many cherished memories were made around her table. Marcia also had a lifelong love of gardening and flowers. She grew tomatoes, cucumbers, and strawberries in her garden and especially enjoyed sharing her love of gardening with her granddaughters, Stella and Scarlett. Some of their sweetest memories were made alongside their Mimi in the garden.

An animal lover throughout her life, Marcia always had dogs who became beloved members of the family. She was also a loyal fan of the Indianapolis Colts and Indiana Pacers and enjoyed cheering on her favorite teams. She rarely missed her weeknight ritual of watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy!, a familiar part of her evenings for many years.

Marcia was kind and generous, but she also had a strong spirit and was never afraid to stand up for herself or the people she loved. She believed in treating people well, helping when someone was in need, and sharing what she had with others.

Marcia often said, “Help other people when they need it. If you have more, give to others. God will reward you.” It was a simple belief, but it reflected the generosity, kindness, and faith that guided her throughout her life.

Marcia faced cancer with courage during the final three months of her life. Throughout that time, she was surrounded by the love, care, and support of her family, who remained by her side until her final moments.

Marcia is survived by her daughter, Amy Lynn (Chris) Mallery; her son, Eric Douglas Van Dyke; her beloved granddaughters, Scarlett and Stella Mallery; her sisters, Jane Leech and Marilyn Campbell; and her brother, Phillip Mick. She was preceded in death by her husband, Doug W. Van Dyke; her parents, Hazel A. Mick (Smith) and Claude J. Mick; and her brother, Robert Mick.

Marcia will be deeply missed and forever remembered by the people who knew and loved her. Her legacy lives on in the family she cherished, the traditions she created, the recipes she shared, the gardens she tended, and the countless acts of care that made others feel at home. Most of all, her memory will live on through Amy and Eric and her beloved granddaughters, Scarlett and Stella, who will always carry their Mimi with them.

A celebration of Marcia and Doug’s life will be planned for a later date at one of their favorite places, the bowling alley. Inurnment will take place at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens in Indianapolis. The Van Dyke family has entrusted Flanner Buchanan Funeral Homes with her cremation.
