Marcia R. Davis, 88 of Indianapolis, IN, formerly of Sun Lakes, AZ, passed away Wednesday, August 16, 2023. Marcia was born August 10, 1935 in Indianapolis to the late Edgar A. and Virginia R. Freeman. She received her bachelor’s degree from Indiana Central University in 1960 and her master’s degree from Indiana University in 1964, where she was a member of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

Marcia was an elementary school teacher her entire career with the Indianapolis Public School system until she retired. She attended University United Methodist Church and was a former member of St. John AME Church where she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and where she raised her children.

She lived several years in Arizona where she was an avid golfer and volunteered for Meals on Wheels. Marcia enjoyed playing the piano, especially church hymns. She enjoyed traveling, taking cruises and doing needle crafts.

Family and friends are invited to gather for the visitation from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm on Friday, August 25 at Ebenezer Baptist Church which is located at 1901 N. Harding St. The funeral service will be held at 12:00 pm. Burial will follow at Crown Hill Cemetery.

Marcia was the widow of Charles E. Davis. She is survived by her children, Valerie K. Davis, Melanie R (husband, Parnell) Talley, Dr. Damon C. (wife, Dr. Christine) Davis; grandchildren, Courtney K. Oliver, Parnell I. Talley, Jr., Colton Davis Talley, Jason C. Davis, Andrew D. Davis and Spencer C. Davis; sister, Patricia Brewer; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
