Major Williams, 85, of Indianapolis, passed away September 25, 2015 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Major, or better known to many as MJ or Foots, was born in Ruleville, MS. The son of the late Tommy and Bessie (Thomas) Williams. He served during the Korean War in the United States Marine Corp., where he was a tractor trailer driver and mechanic. He retired from the City of Indianapolis after 21 years as a mechanic for the Sanitation Department. He worked extra jobs on the side as a security guard, he also had an ice cream truck, whatever it took to care for his family. He was preceded in death by his parents; sons, Major and Major Earl "Dickey"; great-grandchild, Anijah Marie Winston; sisters, Irene Young and Bertha Mea Atkins.
He leaves behind, his loving wife of 58 years, Julia Lee Smith-Williams; his gifts, Antoinette Marie Williams-McCray (Gary), Darlene Leonia Polin (Nathaniel), and Keith Aaron Williams (Linda); his grandchildren, Michaela Aunje'a Rias-Harris (Elliot), Duncan Eric Winston (Lynsey), Nathaniel B. Polin Jr., Nyree Leanne Polin, Natasha Brown, Keith Aaron Williams and Kiana Williams; great-grandchildren,Cameron Ammon Rias, Elijah Johnson Winston, Justice Aunjea Ryann Winston, Nate'yia and Zaria Polin, Kaye' Marie Williams, Antonio Boykin, Tyron Hughes, Genesis Herring, Kadryn, Kiyera and Aiyana Williams; his sisters, Irnell Morgan, LaDora Southall (Tommy Lee), Mary Bell (Verl), one brother Aberry Williams (Vera), and many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
Services will be held 2:00 PM, Thursday, October 1, 2015 at Flanner and Buchanan-Washington Park East, 10722 E. Washington St., Indianapolis, IN 46229. Visitation 2 hours prior to service. Military rites will be conducted in the courtyard at Washington Park East Cemetery immediately following the service.
