Mrs. Maggie Bobbitt, daughter of Robert Lewis and Elnora Samuels-Lewis, was born on January 30, 1929, in Orrville, Alabama.
Maggie received her education at Keith School, in Orrville. Maggie was baptized at Rising Star Primitive Baptist Church, also in Orrville. She was the widow of Edward Bobbitt.
Maggie relocated to Indianapolis, Indiana in 1952. She was a member of New Liberty Baptist Church, later she became a member of Community Baptist Church and Unity Fellowship Baptist Church before finding her church home of many years with Greater Northwest Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Claude B. Robinson. She was a member of the Usher and Senior ministries.
Maggie attended Madam C. J. Walker College of Beauty Culture and became a licensed beautician, managing her own hair salon for many years. Maggie was a member of the Delta Chi Delta Chapter of the Alpha Chi Pi Omega Sorority. Maggie was an active member of the sorority, attending conventions and had a wonderful time participating in the planning and coordination of the annual Ebony Fashion Fair held in Indianapolis. In her retirement years she was active with Heritage House of Indianapolis and enjoyed dancing with the Ladies of the Dance, performing at the Indiana State Fair and numerous senior communities.
Maggie departed her earthly life, Tuesday, March 1,2022, at St. Vincent Hospital. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers, Levi and Robert Lewis, sisters, Essie McElroy, Johnnie Mae Tolbert, Bernice Collier, Thelma Christine and Augusta Adell Lewis, her son Edward Darren Bobbitt and a daughter, Evelyn Ratcliffe.
Those left to cherish her precocious memory are her loving and supportive daughters: Doris Bryant, Renee McIntyre, Sharon Pope, six grandchildren, three great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren; sisters Elnora Hoosier, Edna Simmons of Indianapolis, Indiana and Ann Williams of New Orleans Louisiana and a host of nieces, nephews, her Greater Northwest Baptist Church family, and many friends.
