Lynn Marie Hite

Lynn Marie Hite (née Viles), 77, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 4, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.

Lynn was born in Tecumseh, Michigan, to Lawrence Viles II and Doris (Viles) Jones and was raised in Dundee, Michigan. She graduated from Dundee High School and attended Monroe County Community College. Throughout her life, she lived in the Toledo, Ohio and Temperance, Michigan areas, where she built a life centered on family, friendship, and caring for others.

Lynn dedicated many years of her professional life to administrative and accounting roles, where she was known for her strong work ethic, attention to detail, and warm personality. Her final years of employment were spent working in behavioral health, a fitting role for someone who genuinely cared about people and always sought to help those around her.

While Lynn valued her work, her greatest joy came from her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Following the passing of her beloved husband, Richard Hite, in 2002, she continued to be the steady and loving heart of her family.

Known affectionately as “Gigi,” Lynn treasured every moment spent with her grandchildren. Whether she was tending to her flowers, preparing a family meal, making her famous peanut brittle, or sharing stories around the table, she created memories that her family will cherish forever. Her grandchildren were the light of her life, and nothing brought her greater happiness than being part of their lives.

Lynn possessed a rare gift for making others feel welcome. She was friendly, compassionate, caring, and quick to make a new friend wherever she went. Even during her courageous battle with cancer, she maintained a positive outlook and a warm smile. Throughout difficult treatments, recovery, and ultimately the return of her illness, Lynn faced every challenge with grace, strength, and optimism.

Her kindness left a lasting impression on countless nurses, physicians, therapists, aides, and caregivers who cared for her along the way. Many became friends, drawn to her warmth, sense of humor, and genuine interest in others. During her time in Indianapolis receiving care closer to family, she continued to build meaningful connections and touched the lives of everyone she encountered. It was not uncommon for those caring for Lynn to leave feeling that she had cared for them as much as they had cared for her.

Those who knew Lynn will remember her wonderful sense of humor, her gift for storytelling, and her ability to find joy in life’s simple moments. She never met a stranger and had a remarkable ability to make people feel valued, heard, and loved.

Above all else, Lynn’s greatest accomplishment was the loving home she created for her family. She gave her children a childhood filled with warmth, laughter, security, and unconditional love, a gift that continues to shape their lives today. Her legacy lives on not only in the values she instilled, but also in the countless family traditions, meals shared around the table, and memories made together over the years.

Her faith sustained her through life’s challenges and provided comfort throughout her illness. While she did not always speak loudly about her faith, she carried it quietly in her heart and drew strength from it during both joyful and difficult seasons of life.

Lynn is survived by her daughter, Jen Dinan; son, Jeff (Kelly) Hite; stepdaughter, Debbie (Jim) Dyar; grandchildren Cassie Dyar, Brody Dinan, Sam Dinan, Charlie Dinan, Murphy Dinan, Gabby Hite, and Mitchell Hite; brother Larry (Carole) Viles; nephew Larry (Nicole) Viles; and many friends who will miss her dearly.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Hite; her father, Lawrence Viles II; and her mother, Doris Jones Viles.

Though her family grieves her loss, they find comfort in the countless lives she touched through her kindness, generosity, humor, and unwavering love. Her family is especially grateful for the extra time they were blessed to share with her following her cancer diagnosis; time filled with conversations, laughter, treasured memories, and opportunities to express the love she so freely gave throughout her life.

To her grandchildren, she was simply “Gigi” and that was her favorite title of all.

Lynn often spoke of one day being at a beautiful garden party in Heaven. Those who loved her find comfort in imagining her there now - surrounded by beauty, reunited with those who have gone before her, sharing stories, laughter, and friendship just as she always did.

A life so beautifully lived leaves a lasting imprint on the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her. Lynn will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished.
