Lynn Aron Gregory

December 8, 1942 — January 28, 2026

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dad, Lynn Aron Gregory, age 83, at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana. Lynn was born on December 8th, 1942, in Patriot, Indiana on a snow-covered day, and he departed this world on a snowy morning on January 28th, 2026. Of all the things our dad was proud of, none mattered more to him than his girls.

He was preceded in death by his oldest daughter, Tina Gregory; his sister, Sharon Monroe; his brothers, John Edward, Patrick, Raye, and William (Bill) Gregory, and his parents; Nancy and John Aron Gregory. He is survived by his daughters, April (Matthew) Gregory-Snyder and Holly Gregory; his grandchildren, Jeremy Buchanan, Jennifer Harris, and Mason, Claire, and Ruby Snyder, as well as great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

From a young age, Lynn worked alongside his father at Gregory’s Jewelry in Aurora, Indiana, where he mastered the art of repairing watches. He later worked as a refrigerator and appliance repairman before attending the police academy in 1977. Lynn spent the majority of his career serving as Police Chief of Osgood, Indiana. During this time, he took undercover assignments in Indianapolis and earned numerous certifications, including undercover drug crime investigation, drug enforcement, domestic violence investigation and intervention, cults investigations, and hazardous materials response.

After retirement, Lynn moved to Madison, Indiana, where he became the volunteer elevator repairman--combining his mechanical expertise with his first responder training. In an old, converted school building turned quirky flats, the elevator gave plenty of opportunity for rescues, a job his neighbors appreciated!

In his retirement, Lynn enjoyed his daily walks along the river, morning coffee with the coffee crew, fishing with his brother, Bill, and antiquing. In his younger years, our dad loved wandering through the woods, finding cool branches, rocks, leaves, and any natural object to turn into walking sticks for fellow hikers. He whittled, soldered, and created art in his spare time, always happy to be making something with his hands.

He spent the last sixteen years of his life in Indianapolis with his daughters, Holly and April. He met friends along the way, had adventures, and charmed everyone with his wit and gentleness.

After a lifetime of service to his community and a lifetime of love for his girls, Chief Lynn Aron Gregory has completed his final call. His watch has ended.

69-10 Osgood. Signal 8 to station H.

Interment will be at River View Cemetery in Aurora, Indiana.
