Lydia Sue (Brown) Helms (70) passed away March 11, 2022, surrounded by her family. She was born August 4th, 1951 in Columbus, IN to Warren and Mae (DeHart) Brown. She is survived by two brothers, Warren (Tena) Brown, and Eric (Sara) Brown.
Lydia married Ray on February 24, 1970. They met at McCordsville convention when Lydia was 16 years old. The first thing Ray said to her was, “Lydia Helms. Sounds pretty good, doesn’t it?!” They enjoyed 50 years of marriage, and had three daughters, Jenifer (John) Boehm of Crawfordsville, Jamie (Jon) Hoversland of Lafayette, and Julie (Brent) Meyer of McCordsville. Her five grandchildren, Lake Boehm, Jackson, Jilian, Jude, and Jake Hoversland, were her pride and joy.
Lydia lived by a quiet confidence in God that helped guide the choices she made throughout her life. Over the years, as she grew closer to God, she came to feel that “nothing mattered, but Salavation.” She was active in a Home-based Fellowship. She and Ray appreciated the privilege of the annual church convention held on the farm for many years. She loved living and working on the farm and made sure it always looked nice. Some of her favorite things to do were mowing the grass, riding her golf cart to the pond to read or feed the fish, and sitting on the porch visiting with friends and family. Lydia never met a stranger, and she developed many friendships over the years. Their home was always open to family, friends, and strangers over the years, and they were friends to many.
In addition to her brothers, daughters, sons-in-law, and grandchildren, she is survived by several nieces and nephews, all whom she loved very much.
Visitation and funeral service will be held at the farm: 6731 N. 500 W. McCordsville, IN 46055. A visitation will be Friday, March 18, 2022 from 4PM – 8PM. An additional visitation will be held Saturday, March 19, 2022 from 10am – 11am, with a funeral service immediately following.
