Lowell Ellabarger

April 8, 1926 — March 5, 2015

Lowell G. Ellabarger was born April 8, 1926 to the late Lowell S. Ellabarger and Annie Lucie (Grayston) in Huntington, Indiana. He was married for 63 years to the former Charlotte Rahn. He is survived by his son Daniel R. (Theresa), two daughters, Mary Ann Brumm (Steve) and Laura Schigel (Tim) and nine grandchildren. One grandson is deceased. He graduated as valedictorian of Huntington High School in 1943; received degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue University and Economics from Butler University. While at Purdue he played drums in the symphonic, marching, and dance bands. Lowell proudly served in the U.S. Navy in WWII and Korea. He remained in the Naval Reserve for 28 years, retiring with the rank of Commander. He retired from Allison Division of General Motors in 1991 after 35 years of service in various engineering programs and as an FAA Representative. Lowell earned the Eagle Scout Award in 1940 and continued to be a member of the National Eagle Scout Association. He was a member of the Triangle Fraternity, Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite and the U.S. Military Officers Association. Lowell was a dedicated, loving husband and father; he enjoyed many trips throughout the world – a highlight of his travels was his baptism in the Jordan River. Lowell was a former member of the 91st Street Christian Church and in recent years has attended services at Hoosier Village. There will be a memorial service at the Hoosier Village Retirement Center Chapel, 5300 W. 96th St., Indianapolis, IN 46268, Tuesday, March 10, 2015 from 1:00pm-2:00pm with visitation to follow until 5:00pm. The family would like to thank the staff at Hoosier Village for the care given to Lowell and his family. Memorial Contributions may be made to, Hoosier Village Chapel or Purdue University Band.
