Louise Alura (Thomas) Todd, 88, passed away peacefully Monday morning, August 18, 2025 surrounded by family who loved her dearly. Louise was born March 21, 1937 in Silver Lake, KS. She was the youngest of three children born to Mabel (Howerton) and Adolphus J. Thomas. Her early years spanned the end of the Great Depression and WWII, and she quickly learned the importance of work ethic and responsibility from her parents while tending to the many chores around the family farm. It was a lesson she never forgot, and she remained a Kansas farmer’s daughter at heart the rest of her life.
In her teen years, Louise was a talented pianist and left her family with treasured recordings of her recitals. She graduated from Silver Lake High School and earned her bachelor’s degree in Commerce from Washburn University. While at Washburn, Louise was an active member of the Alpha Phi sorority, met her future husband, Dallas Todd, and made many cherished lifelong friends. Dallas and Louise were united in marriage on October 4, 1959 and began their life together in Denver, CO. It was the first of six cross-country moves she would make with her family. Any move can be disorienting especially for children, but Louise was a safe harbor of love, comfort, and normalcy during these times. Her quiet faith and selfless devotion always gave her family strength during difficult times.
Louise had a servant’s heart. She was an assistant librarian and teacher’s assistant for students with disabilities in Naperville, IL. She also was active in her local P.E.O. chapter in Carmel, IN, where she served for many years in a variety of roles including chapter President.
At home Louise was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, who loved her family dearly and was at her happiest during family gatherings. Her holiday meals were always eagerly anticipated. Rising early in the morning, she would start from scratch and work her tireless magic in the kitchen to make an amazing meal followed by one of her signature desserts. She loved hosting birthday parties for her grandchildren and watching them grow up and get involved in their various activities. Her smile and laughter during these happy days will always be remembered.
Louise was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two brothers, Adolphus (Tom) and Charles, and a daughter-in-law, Barbara (Awbrey). She is survived by her four children: Susan (Sehgal), Sandra, Douglas (Glenda) of Carmel, IN, and Dwight (Rebecca) of Fort Wayne, IN and seven grandchildren: David and Katherine Sehgal, Andrew and Alexander Todd, and Natalie, Elise, and Audrey Todd.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, September 5 at Flanner Buchanan-Hamilton Memorial Park, Prairie Waters, where family and friends are invited to gather from 1:00 pm until the time of the service.
