Louise Caroline Worthington Stroude Loyd, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away on November 4, 2026, at the remarkable age of 101. Her century of life was marked by love for her family, generosity toward others, and a lasting commitment to her community.
Louise was born on April 11, 1925, in Saskatchewan, Canada to Charles Cleveland Worthington and Carolena Gutman Worthington. She was the fifth of 6 siblings and fondly recalled she and her siblings watching their father perform speeches while standing on a log on their farm.
She married Maurice Stroude in January 1944, and together they had nine children. In 1974, she married Charles Francis Loyd, with whom she traveled the world, sharing adventures and creating memories throughout their years together.
As the mother of nine, grandmother to 27 grandchildren, great-grandmother to 51 great-grandchildren and great-great-grandmother to 10 great-great-grandchildren. Louise held a special place at the heart of a large and loving family. She never forgot a birthday, sending birthday cards to all and upholding the Stroude Family Reunion for 50 years.
Louise embraced life with enthusiasm. She appeared on multiple game shows, loved playing cards, and enjoyed trips to the casino. Whether traveling somewhere new or gathering around a card table, she found joy in adventure, friendly competition, and the company of others.
Her generosity reached well beyond her family and was deeply rooted in her faith in God. Louise never met a stranger. She helped countless relatives, friends, and community members, offering meals, a place to stay, encouragement, and unconditional and abundant love for all she encountered. A fierce and devoted supporter of the American Legion Auxiliary and a founding member of Helping Veterans and Families (HVAF), she cared deeply about helping veterans experiencing homelessness. Her willingness to help left a lasting impression on the people whose lives she touched. She had energy and light that touched all who met her and will continue to radiate through them.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Louisa Worthington; siblings; husband Charles Loyd and four sons, Mike, Pat, Greg and Bob; as well as son-in-law Chuck Marksberry. She is lovingly remembered by her children Jackie (Jim) Osborne, Becky Marksberry, Jeanne (Phil) Warlick, Louise Ann Williams, Jeff (Donna) Stroude; daughter-in-law Karen Stroude; 27 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren; and the many friends and community members who became part of her extended family.
Over 101 years, Louise built a legacy of love, generosity, and adventure. Louise will be missed terribly, but her character, strength, faith, kindness, beauty, sense of humor, and fairness live on in us. Her stories will be shared, her spirit remembered and her presence deeply missed.
Visitation for Louise will take place from 10:00am-12:00pm, Tuesday, November 10, 2026, at Little Flower Catholic Church, 4720 E 13th Street, Indianapolis, IN 46201. Funeral Mass will follow at 12:00pm with burial at Washington Park East Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to HVAF and/or Little Flower Catholic Church in honor of her longstanding commitment and dedication to both organizations. In honor of Louise, we also invite you to participate in a sock donation. If you would like to honor her memory, please bring a new pair or package of socks to donate.
