Louis 'Louie' Lee Hawkins

June 8, 1960 — November 4, 2012

Louis Lee Hawkins, Jr., 52, of Indianapolis, died Sunday, November 4, 2012. He was born June 8, 1960 to Louis and Rheta (Burrus) Hawkins. Louie attended John Marshall High School, class of 1978. Following graduation, he was employed by DeMoss Tool & Die and Beech Grove Glass. He was an avid fan of college basketball and football, the NFL and Indy Car Racing. Louie was a fanatic about his Pittsburgh Steelers and IU Hoosiers. His family and friends knew better than to call him during game time, because he would be too emotionally-vested to answer the phone. But he would make up for it when he called back and had a two-hour conversation, because nothing was more important to Louie than his love for family. Whether he was enjoying a holiday dinner, adding friendly competition to family game night, or cheering on the kids from the bleachers, being in the presence of his loved ones was Louie's favorite place to be. In addition to his parents, Louie is survived by his sisters, Cindy (David) Dudgeon and Vicki (Dan) Furlani; nieces Amanda (Todd) Westerfield, Jennifer (Don) Swartz, and Allison (Justin) Hunt; nephew Jeff (Shannon) Thinnes; great-nieces and great-nephews Shelby and Kennedy Westerfield, Adison and Luke Swartz, Kallie and Logan Thinnes, and Connor Hunt; and his loving dog Sheba. Friends may call from 3:00 – 8:00 pm on Thursday November 8, 2012 at Flanner and Buchanan – Washington Park East, 10722 E. Washington St., Indianapolis. Funeral services will be held 1:00 pm Friday, November 9, 2012 at Flanner and Buchanan. Entombment will follow in Washington Park East Cemetery.
