Lorraine Aylmer Hughes Albright was a hostess until the end. She married Jack Lawrence Albright on August 17, 1957. They lived in California, Illinois and Indiana. In 1968, they welcomed their daughter Maryann and in 1972 their daughter Amy completed the family. Lorraine stayed at home to be a homemaker and raise the girls with loving arms. Their home was a place where everyone was always welcome. Holiday meals for Jack's students who couldn't go home, club teas and a healthy meal for the family who sat around the table sharing their day. Lorraine loved to make others feel her love through hosting.
Lorraine grew up in Pullman, Washington with her father Howard Hughes and mother Charlotte. She attended Washington State University and was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. Upon graduation she spent a year in England as a Fulbright scholar at Leeds University. Here she made contact with second cousins and developed a lifelong passion for genealogy. When she returned to Washington, she worked in extension with textiles and homemaking. Here she met Jack at Washington State University where he was a Ph.D student. She continued her career teaching at both University of Illinois University and Purdue University until her girls came along.
In West Lafayette she was a member of Round Table, Alter Guild at St. John's Episcopal Church and a 40-plus-year bridge club of her dearest friends. P.E.O., a Philanthropic Educational Organization is close to her heart. She was a 75-year member. In her second act, once moving to Carmel, Indiana, she stayed active in a new P.E.O. chapter, loved swimming at PrimeLife Enrichment for seniors and made new friends in Daughters of the King at St. Christopher's Episcopal Church.
An extrovert who interviewed all she met, Lorraine made each person a lifelong friend. This was evident as she hosted a stream of people who adored and loved her in the days leading up to her death.
She is survived by daughters Maryann Williams (Andrew) and Amy Schalk (Trey); grandsons Nicholas Williams (Taylor) Daniel Williams (Ellen) Timothy Williams (Grace) and Jonathan Williams (Marie); great- granddaughters Jackie, Maren and Charlotte; sister-in-law Kay Hughes; and nieces Ava Moore and April Williams.
A Memorial Service for Lorraine will be held on Thursday, May 21, at 10am, at St. Christopher's Episcopal Church,1402 W Main St, Carmel, IN 46032. The placement of Lorraine's urn will take place on the same day at 3pm at St. John's Episcopal Church Columbarium, 600 Ferry Street, Lafayette, Indiana 47901.
